Amanda Bossard was just out of high school when she started her marine biology studies at Alaska PacificUniversity in Anchorage. Bossard started her commercial seafood career in 1999, after she started working aboard the F/V Sunset. This 65' schooner converted to a salmon tender was owned by Murat Aritan. He has been a commercial fishing since 1993. Bossard and Aritan are married now and are working together to claim their place in their respective industries. They are supporters of conservative and lucrative renewable resources for seafood management. Otolith was founded in Philadelphia in the year 2000 by Bella Bossard, now the mother of two children who are aged three and one Bossard. The name Otolith is a loving reference to Bossard's extensive knowledge about fish biology and her husband's extensive connections in the business of fishing. It is common for them to be separated for 5 months at a stretch while they work towards objectives in the areas of environmental and financial that reflect their commitment and autonomy wherever they are.
